Key Highlights

Specialised Cardiac Services

A complete spectrum of medical and interventional cardiac care — personalised to each patient's needs.

A minimally invasive procedure using X-ray imaging and contrast dye to visualise the inside of the coronary arteries — identifying the location, severity, and anatomy of any blockages. Provides the definitive roadmap for treatment decisions.

Conditions Explained

Conditions We Commonly Treat

What Is It?

Stable angina occurs when the coronary arteries narrow due to a build-up of fatty plaque. During exertion, when the heart demands more blood, the narrowed artery cannot keep up — causing chest discomfort.

Symptoms

Chest tightness, pressure, or heaviness in the centre of the chest, often spreading to the left arm, jaw, or shoulder. Typically lasts a few minutes and resolves with rest or a nitrate spray.

How We Treat It

ECG, echocardiography, and stress testing to assess severity. Depending on findings: antianginal medications, risk factor modification, coronary angiography, and angioplasty or bypass surgery if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

No referral is needed. You can directly book an appointment with our cardiologists — Dr. Balamurugan. S or Dr. Balasubramanian P — by calling 044 3545 3545 or booking online at www.srmhospitals.com.

Yes, we have a state-of-the-art Smart Cath Lab for angiogram, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, ICD implantation, balloon valvotomy, and emergency cardiac procedures.

We offer 128 Slice CT cardiac angiography, 3T MRI-based cardiac imaging, 2D/3D echocardiography, ECG, TMT, Holter monitoring, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring — all under one roof.

Coronary angiography is not painful. It is performed under local anaesthesia — you will be awake throughout the procedure. You may feel a brief sting when the local anaesthetic is injected at the wrist, and a warm flushing sensation when contrast dye is injected. The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes and most patients go home the same day.

Many conditions can be treated using minimally invasive catheter-based procedures — including blocked coronary arteries (angioplasty and stenting), certain arrhythmias (radiofrequency ablation), mitral stenosis (balloon valvotomy), and slow heart rhythms (pacemaker implantation). Our cardiologists will advise on the most appropriate approach for your specific condition.

Yes. Our cardiac emergency line — 044 3500 3500 — is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you or someone with you is experiencing severe chest pain, breathlessness, or collapse, call immediately. Our emergency team is equipped to initiate rapid assessment and activate our Smart Cath Lab for emergency procedures including primary PCI for heart attacks.

No, SRM Prime Hospital does not perform heart transplant surgeries. However, we provide comprehensive evaluation and advanced cardiac care for most heart conditions — including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and complex arrhythmias.

Absolutely. We welcome patients seeking a second opinion on a cardiac diagnosis, angiography report, or proposed procedure. Our cardiologists will review all your previous investigations and provide an honest, independent assessment. Second opinion consultations can be arranged online or in person — call 044 3545 3545 to schedule.
